Mansion Auction Door County

Palatial Door County Mansion On Auction Block
Just a note...Some of you may know that I have been vacationing in Door County, Wisconsin for many years - even before I met Mr CSP - and enjoying the area very much.  Mr CSP and I honeymooned in Door County in 2005 and have returned annually for vacations - even with the pups.  That's why...
when I saw this Mansion, I just knew I had to post about it.

Still Not Sold...New Website Here!

Were you in the market for a place out in the country — particularly in Door County?

Well, we've had just the place for you, if you think big — real big. Property auctioneer Hilco Real Estate Auctions LLC announced plans to put on the auction block Nov. 14 a 35,000-square-foot estate in Ellison Bay that's believed to be the largest single-family home in the state of Wisconsin.

The estate is called Sur la Baie and was built by philanthropist and heiress Judith Blazer, whose grandfather founded Miller Electric, the arc welding and cutting equipment manufacturer based in Appleton. What's more, the auction house took a Priceline-like approach to the sale, having bidders "name their price" on the French-inspired estate. The 43-room stone manor house was originally listed at $19.5 million, but the estate is being sold in four parcels, which could be combined in any number of ways. "Sur la Baie is a mansion of singular quality, designed and built to radiate a sense of supremely sophisticated character," said Michael Fine, CEO and principal of Hilco Real Estate Auctions in Northbrook, Ill. "This is an outstanding opportunity to purchase a world-class, nearly new mansion at a fraction of its reproduction value. This is far and away the most lavish mansion in all of Door County and with few peers in the Midwest." The property is located at 2177 Porcupine Bay Road in Ellison Bay. Just today a 35,000 square foot home just up the hill from where Jennifer and I had our first date hit the auction block. Located in Ellison Bay Wisconsin, Sur la Baie was built in 1993 with 14 bathrooms and a 5,000 square foot master suite. The couple who purchased the home in 2005 was unable to move in and is now being sold at auction by the estate. The previous sale price was $18,500,000 and property taxes are approximatley $140,000 a year.  It was constructed to mimic the style of 19th century east coast mansions and offers everything you could imagine. Over a period of 4 years beginning with the first 2 just blasting into the Door County bedrock bluffs this property is still one of the largest on the peninsula.
