Come Join Me...I'm Celebrating!

SURPRISE!

Yes, 8 years ago May 3, 2008 I began blogging.  In the early stages of blogging, I just blogged about anything, at least I think I did.  I don't remember my first post and I don't have it here on this blog.  Some time ago, when I changed my Blog Name and started a new blog, everything was supposed to be added to the Blog, but wasn't.  That's OK.  That doesn't upset me.

I've had many blog names...and finally in late December [actually New Year's Eve] 2014, I decided to start this blog.  I transferred everything I could from the old blog and started 2015 with Jan's Place.

Over the years...things change...and change they did.
  • I went from a No-Dog household to a 3-Dog Household.  Love them all.  Still miss Benny.
  • I started out with a small garden that grew and grew and eventually built a Garden Wall/Courtyard to grow pretty flowers, herbs and veggies in...and it worked out keeping the Pups in the yard.
  • I posted mostly about interior design then began posting about domestic violence, my home tours and even posting recipes.
But, 2015 brought the biggest changes to my life and to my blogging...
  • First off, right after the new year, my husband was mistakenly diagnosed with cancer, but we didn't know it was a mistake for about 7 weeks.
  • Meanwhile, during that time, many tests were done and many hospital, testings, doctor visit bills mounted up.
  • Found out that when hubby retired, he didn't take Medicare Part B...so there was no co-pay, we had WE-PAY-ALL!
  • Hubby's alzheimers got worse and he got depressed and mean.  I was under siege in my own home.
  • Then surprisingly and with no notice, he moved out.  He has never called, we haven't talked about anything more than taxes and a bill or some piece of mail and then it's only about that.  He never came back home, like he said he was planning to do when he left.
  • I forgave him, almost immediately after he left...because he certainly wasn't anyway, shape or form the man I had married 9 1/2 years earlier.
  • I've learned to do everything around here by myself.  The Pups and I are healthy and strong and get along well.
  • I've lost a total of 69# since April of 2015.
  • Although I feel widowed, I know that I am not - and neither am I divorced.  So, I feel a bit "stuck".  I don't fit into singles groups...I am uncomfortable in Olden People's Groups...I don't fit into married groups...so...I'm still looking for a spot for ME.

Let's see, if I blog another 8 years, it will be 2024...and I'll be ?how many? years old.  We won't go there.  It won't be toooooo old.  LOL!!

Thanks for stopping in today to help me celebrate 8 years blogging!!

It's My Party!

And this gal is going to have a Great time!  I'm throwing a little shin-ding, with food, cake, beverage and fun, an Open House Tea Party...so please stop by to help me celebrate my BIG birthday.  You're all invited to this festive occasion.  The Pups have their birthday party food and their hats, horns, confetti and of course, their food dishes ready...
for all of the party fun too!

We'll be waiting on you.

In case you missed my new photo, here it is...taken only a couple of weeks ago - it's hard to believe I look so good, after having had Bell's Palsy twice - once on the right side and a then again on both sides...in 2012 and 2014.

This picture is from about 10 years ago.  It was for a special occasion, so both my hair and make-up were at their best.

Thanks for visiting and making my day special.

New Photo of Me

Here's an updated photo of me...taken by me on my Computer yesterday...after my massage...without any make-up!  I've just been feeling so good...more energetic and more calm than ever.  A couple of people have remarked that I look so good.  Thank you!

I've experienced much more healing from Bell's Palsy, which I got hit...
with in May 2012 and then again in August 2014 {this time on both sides of my face}...as you can see from my photo.  I'm so thankful for every little bit of restoration.

I'm also eating better, getting more sleep, praying more, turning the rough stuff over to the Lord to take care of {so worrying less}, enjoying my pups more...and the 49# weight loss I've had in the past 4 months.  Yes, Monday will be 4 months already since my husband left me.  Other than talking to him on the phone ONE TIME, the day he left, I haven't spoken to him since.  He doesn't contact me at all.  And of course, his family won't contact me either.  So, I don't know how he is or anything...just so you know.

Here is a Collage of photos of me that date back to 1981...34 years ago...they are all dated.  The 3 photos down the left side are all from my Bell's Palsy Videos...quick snapshots.  What do you think?  Not bad for a 31 year time span, if I must say myself.  Certainly GREAT for being 65 years young!

The Lord has shown me that I have to look after myself and the Pups.  I must move on with my life.  How do I know that He has shown me these things?  I prayed for direction.  He gave it to me via my new Church I-Campus...through Joyce Meyer, TV Evangelist...Bible verses and I feel when I step out in faith, doing something that He tells me to do...a calmness, assured that it is the right thing to do.

While I never wanted to be alone...this is what was decided for me by someone else.  I could have curled up and decided to become a hermit...I could have allowed myself to have pity party after pity party...I could have become depressed...but I chose to ask God for help.  And help, He did.  He loves and cares for me and is ALWAYS there for me.

I have developed some new habits in the past 4 months:

Instead of complaining about something, I list at 3 things I'm Grateful For instead {thoughts from Joyce Meyer TV Show}
I'm hardly on my computer {Huge change}
I spend alot more time with God - Reading & Praying
I've been attending church - ICampus and In Person
Reading more...especially Joyce Meyers books as well as others
Snuggling with My Puppies More
Getting Ready for the Day by 8am every day
Following a House Cleaning Schedule
Getting my Decorating Finished
Eating Well
Sleeping Better
Exercising via Heavy Lifting

Style, Living, Passion

Our individual Passion is like the fuel we use to heat our homes on cold winter days, it creates a fire within us to live life to the fullest! Reignite your passion daily and if you don't feel you have Passion or aren't living life with Passion, sit down and figure out what passion is and how you have even the smallest glimmer of it in...
your life and IGNITE it - it's never too late"...by Jan Tanis
...          ...          ...

My friend Jemma, over at At Home with Jemma has been sharing posts and stories and information about Aging with Style - Living Life with Passion.  Prior to my husband's diagnosis of cancer {which is another story - but good thing is what they believed to be cancer...it is NOT!}, I was going to write a post to share with all of Jemma's readers...but that got de-railed.  Now, that the "scare" is over, I'm getting {or trying to} back to normal.  So, please thank Jemma for this opportunity to see what she's been up to.  And Jemma, I included my Quote that you liked so much!  Thanks for all of your support, prayers, hugs, love and friendship!

...          ...          ...

Here's my story of Living Life with Passion...

We {hubby & I} share our home with our PuppyKids - 3 small furry, four-legged Pups.  We live a normal life, nothing special or out of the ordinary here.  I love it!

I thought I'd tell you that I'm Passionate about my God-given Talents.  Caring for and understanding and loving our PuppyKids and training them takes time and some effort.  I've known for a long time that I had a special connection to animals.  I've been called the "dog whisperer".  The pups make me smile and laugh everyday...and they also comfort me when I need it.  Each one has their duty in the pack and each of them has their own and very different personality.

When hubby and I go on vacation, our 3 Pups travel with us and stay with us in Vacation Rental Homes...and they truly enjoy themselves.  They are 2 girls and a boy, between the ages of 2 and 6. They weigh between 8 and 14 pounds.

They mean the World to Us
Angel is a Coton de Tulear and 2 years old - she is so sweet and cuddly {at 14#} and the Leader of the 3-Pack.  She alerts us to people around or near our yard.  She's on guard all the time.

Jasper is a Maltese and he is nearly 7 years old - and we've nicknamed him the Grumpy old Man, because if either of us or the other 2 pups get too close while he's laying around or napping on the floor or on a chair, he growls.  They all sleep together in a crate and he doesn't do it there.  Funny!

Rosie is a 5 year old Toy Poodle.  She weighs in at 11# and she is a Spit-Fire {although a little quieter since Angel came into our lives}.

Up until a few months ago, I was their groomer, taking care of their every need.  But then I took them to a professional groomer for the first time and she couldn't get over how good they were for her, knowing they'd only had me work on them.  She groomed them and did a terrific job on them and I took them there several times.  In November, I groomed them myself and in 2015, they haven't been back to the groomer, because I've been trimming them.  I trained them from the time they first came here to our home...anywhere from 11 weeks to 9 months of age...and I continue to.  It's a daily adventure!  I'm proud they're my Pups...because they are well behaved, nice and funny!

Now, you may be wondering why there are photos of 4 Pups in the photo above, when I mentioned we had 3...here's the story.

Our youngest Pup, Angel, arrived just 3 weeks after we suffered a terrible loss of one of our Furry Kids.  Benny, {the 4th Pup in the photo), a Havanese, who was the Leader of the 3 Pack, our Guard Dog and a comfort, who weighed 18#, was only a little over 4 1/2 years old, woke up one morning, lame on one of his hind legs.  After seeing the Vet, we came home with some meds for him and an appointment to return after the weekend for X-rays.  By that evening, it was apparent to the ER Vet we went to that he was much worse than anyone could have ever known.  He was suffering from an acute onset of neurological problems.  He was seizing so frequently, couldn't hear or see, didn't know where he was or even whether he was upside down or right side up.  No ones knows how, why or anything as to how this came about, but in less than 12 hours - from the time we saw our Vet in the morning and when we saw the ER Vet in the evening, we knew he wasn't going to make it through the night.  We decided we had to put him to sleep.  We couldn't allow him to continue suffering.  It was terrible.  I'd never experienced anything like it before.  But it was the right choice and the only choice we could make for such a special dog.  I'm certain he was Heaven-sent, just special, to help me through a nearly 2 year (and continuing) recovery from Bell's Palsy.  He knew when I was in pain and would come by me to give me comfort.  He knew right where the pain was, too.  He would nuzzle me with his nose and lick the spot and then place himself in such a way as to use his body heat to warm up the sore and stiff, paralyzed muscles in my face, neck and head.  He knew.  It was hard to let him go.  The days following his death on December 7, 2013, were harder.  They are better now, but I still miss him.

The new 3-Pack has been a great pack...getting along so well, playing and running around and generally being Pups!  You can read more about all of the 3 Pups Here.

God gave me Gifts and Talents, about which I am Passionate.  I knew, when I was a kid, that I had these talents - loving, caring for and understanding animals, interior design, cooking and baking and creating things with my hands...but it wasn't until I was saved that I understood how I got them and where they came from and why I always felt a need to use them.  I've always been a very detailed person...and that started in childhood, too.  And my 3 Talents all include DETAIL.  So did I become a detailed person using my talents?  Or did God already instill in me the ability to be DETAILED?  I don't know...but whatever HE did, HE did right!!  I've used my Talents throughout my life.

Here are Three more of them...

Interior Design

As a child, I often moved my bedroom furniture around, creating new window treatments and sitting areas in my small bedroom.  I'd prompt my mom to rearrange the living room furniture too.  I liked helping my parents select paint colors and work on the house.  As I got older, I would decorate my own apartment and then began helping others decorate their own homes.  In 1981, I began my career as an Interior Designer at Ethan Allen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  I was able to support myself and use a Talent from God and for that I'm very thankful.  Through the years, of course, my taste and style has evolved.  One thing that has never changed is my love of the color BLACK.  It anchors a room and just balances other colors.  It's been my one constant in design.

The next 2 photos are of my initial Interior Design of our new home.  It stayed this way for 7 years and has undergone a big change...which I hope to begin sharing very soon on my Blog...

I've been in the midst of a whole house re-design for quite a while.  While I was recuperating from the worst of Bell's Palsy, I did nothing.  I can't remember the summer - the entire summer and fall of 2012, the year I got it.  I was in so much pain, I would sleep and sleep and sleep.  I wasn't taking medications to make me sleep, my body just needed it.  Then in August of 2014, I got hit with BO again - on both sides of my face and I'm still improving.  I do everything I can to help myself heal.
Hospitality
As you can see the table in my Dining Room is Set for Lunch...with a Friend...complete with Tea.  I love decorating and setting a pretty table and serving delicious food.  On my Blog, you'll find lots of Recipes that are either mine or tried and true Recipes from other friends.

To me, there is nothing more loving and comforting than preparing a meal or Tea and serving it to others.  I know sometimes I rush around and probably even appear frazzled but it's only because I want everything to be just right for my guests.

Here's a Great Summer Salad Recipe that I love.

Creamy Cucumber Salad
(BETTER FOR YOU - in parenthesis)

1 medium red onion, roughly diced
2 medium cucumbers, halved, peeled &sliced 1/2" thick
1/2 green pepper, thinly sliced
2 large cherry tomatoes, halved
2 tablespoons white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1/2 cup Hellmann's Mayonnaise
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
4 tablespoons granulated sugar (or 2T honey)
1 teaspoon seasoning salt (or Garlic, Thyme, or any other seasoning)
1 tablespoon fresh dill (or as much as desired)

Creamy Cucumber Salad Recipe Preparation Instructions:

Place the diced onion, sliced cucumbers (*see note below), sliced green pepper, halved cherry tomatoes into  a large mixing bowl.  In a separate bowl, mix the vinegar, mayonnaise, parsley flakes, sugar (or honey), salt/seasoning and dill.  Pour over the "veggies" and toss.  Refrigerate at least 2 hrs (stirring at least once to redistribute ingredients).  The dressing gets a bit thinner as all the flavors blend and the juices of the "veggies" come out.

*Note: The cucumber cut is especially important. If thinly sliced, most cucumbers wilt & do not retain their crunch.

I love using my pretty things - Dishes, Silver Flatware, Crystal, Serving Pieces, so here are a few that I like to use - whether serving lunch or dinner or Tea - and even use every day.  These are pretties that I've collected throughout my life.

And I even use my PINK PYREX Dishes!!
Most people I know...who take a vacation...no matter who they are, no matter how much they love cooking and baking, choose to NOT DO ANY while on vacation.  NOT ME!!  I even take items from home that I know I will need in order to cook my meals and bake some goodies.  I take 2 full bins that fit in the trunk, filled with needed bowls, mixer, pans, mixing bowls, panini press, griddle...pot and pans, knives...you name it, I take it...after carefully planning a menu for the week we'll be away.  Sometimes, if the owner of the Vacation Homes we stay in are on the Property or near...I've been known to take them a meal, too!  It does my ♥ good to serve others.

Working With My Hands
I like keeping busy, even when I'm relaxing and God has given me a Talent that allows me to do that.  I crochet and design and create Rosaries and Jewelry.  For a number of years I had an Etsy Shop, where I sold my hand-made items...then I finally decided it was time to retire from the shop.  I continue to make items by request and gifts, too.  I feel the best when I'm using all of my talents and I bet you do too.  Here are a few items that I've created.

I'm so fortunate to have these Talents...and that I've been able to support myself using them.  God has been so good to me by giving me these talents, that I feel the need to use them daily.  And, using them daily, makes me the happiest.  While I'm happy with what I create, I know that the ideas in my head come from God and He guides me as to what I should be doing with my talents.

What are your Talents that you've been blessed with?  How do you use them?  Do you use them often?  How long have you known about your talents?

Puppy Kisses...

We're Wishing Everyone a Beautiful Day!  It's snowing, very windy and dropping to below zero later today...so I'll be snuggling up with my own Pups...and enjoying some time together.  Snuggle up and keep warm, too!

Do You Use a To Do List?

It seems I've always used a To Do List.  I hate having to remember things that I need to do.  I've tried that and I always felt like I was forgetting something and I was always thinking about it!  I have too many other things going on in my head to have to think about the things I need to do.   Do you use a To Do List?  If you do, how is that working for you?  If you don't use a To Do List, how do you
get things accomplished?  Checking things off the list, is something I love being able to do!

I make lists for everything!  Grocery Shopping - Things to Do - Christmas Cookies to Bake - Menu for the Week and just a miscellaneous one - which at the end of the day or the end of the week, gets put on to another list.  I have a pad of paper, with columns so it is quite easy to work from.  I know I will be interuppted when working...that's a given.  So, I try to go with whatever it is - get it taken care of and get back to the list.

Something that will be on the top of my To Do List next week...is a Massage!!  That's for sure.  And I'll be deciding if I will make a Grooming appointment for the 3 Pups or if I'll be taking care of them this time.  I want to try something different with their cuts and it's easier for me to do it and take photos than to describe what I want done.

Are You Happy?

I know why I am here and my only real focused goal is to live each day to the fullest and to try and honor God and be an encouragement to others. What the future holds is firmly in God's hands, and I am very happy about that!  -Ken Hensley

A wonderful Quote!  Now...are you ready to sing along with this Video?  I love this song...the lyrics and the way the singer dances around, smiling, while he's singing this song!  Sing Along...

"Happy"

[Verse 1:]
It might seem crazy what I'm about to say
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break
I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don't care baby by the way

{Uh}

[Chorus:]
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

[Verse 2:]
Here come bad news talking this and that, yeah,
Well, give me all you got, and don't hold it back, yeah,
Well, I should probably warn you I'll be just fine, yeah,
No offense to you, don't waste your time
Here's why

[Chorus]

{Hey
Go
Uh}

[Bridge:]
(Happy)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said (let me tell you now)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said

[Chorus x2]

{Hey
Go
Uh}

(Happy) [repeats]
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down... my level's too high...
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now)

[Chorus x2]

{Hey
C'mon}

Spring Seems to Have Finally Arrived...Even If......

Suddenly, I'm seeing signs of Spring!  Finally!  Oh Joy!  Even if there are Snow words in the extended weather forecast...Spring can NOT be far behind.  I'm having dreams that look like this...the beautiful colors...the warmth...the blue skies...birds singing...oh Spring!  Our Pup, Angel, just over 9 months old, discovered birds today.  Every time she heard one {we had our windows
open today - with a high of 71°}, she'd fly to the windows, find the bird and then start howling/barking.  She has so many voices when she barks...it's really funny.  She's so funny...and such a sweet girl.

With Spring here and Summer coming, I'm seeing buds forming on my Roses and Hydrangeas...and sprouts of Day Lillies!  With that, there will be alot of outdoor work and I have a ton of things to get done inside the house, too.  There are alot of projects on my TO DO LIST.

Pop Ups

Suddenly have Pop-Ups? No, I'm not really talking about pop-up thermometers, or pretty cards!

I'm talking about Pop-Up Ads...Are they showing up everywhere?   Even on your Blog?   Do you have Ads on your blog that you haven't wanted or OK'd?   Links in weird colors that are double underscored on your blog too?

I did...and it was EZ-Peasy to get rid of them...

I use Google Chrome and there is a button in the top right corner of your screen with 3 horizontal bars...click on it and go to Settings, then click Extensions on the top left.  Then all you need to do is DELETE the items you don't want.

I had 3 that weren't there yesterday...and they were all ads!

I had visited a Blog this morning where I noticed all the oddly colored and underscored Links...and shortly after, I was getting pop-ups like mad!!

Now they're gone and I'm so happy!  I thought I'd share this with you, it's the easiest thing to get rid of something that can be so maddening.

Spruce Up

This was just an ordinary - out of focus - spruce tree field photo before I worked some magic on it.  I used PhotoScape to change the way it looked to the Photo Above.  Okay, you want to see what it looked like when I found it?  Here it is.  Not much color or contrast.  I love to SPRUCE UP photos!  I love to SPRUCE UP my house...my wardrobe...and make it come alive.  Where am I going...
with all of this?  Certainly, I'm not just talking TREES here!   By now, perhaps you've noticed that I've SPRUCED UP my Blog!  I made a NEW Header, and changed things around on my Blog.

What prompted all of these changes?
1. Fall
2. Tired of the way things looked
3. I LOVE change
4.  I LOVE Sprucing Up My Blog!

Want to learn to Crochet? Try this EZ Video!

Teresa - (Crochet Geek on YouTube) is where I learned to crochet nearly 3 years ago.
I tried having friends teach me, I watched videos, bought books...all to no avail.  But with Teresa's videos - actually the first one I watched - I was crocheting.  I have made all sorts of afghans, hats with flowers and leaves on them, scarves...done lots of stitches...all with help from Teresa and her videos.
So, if you've been wanting to learn how to crochet - get started HERE.
