Introducing...

Our weekend started out with a Visit to the Breeder where we've gotten all of our Pups...in Indiana...2  1/2 hours each way.  It was a beautifully sunny Friday, December 27, 2013.  We spent several hours there, looking at Puppies and some slightly older Pups, too.   Let me back up here...even before our Pup, Benny died on December 7, 2013...I saw a post with a picture of Angel (a.k.a. Aurora).  Benny used to sit on my lap and even on my desk and look at pictures
on my computer - so he saw Angel.

Benny was so smart, he recognized people from pictures, by their scent and their name.  He loved pictures, videos and TV Commercials, of which he had many Favorites.  But, when Benny died, everything went out the window, as far as thoughts of adding another pup to our pack.

Then the day came (alot quicker than I'd anticipated) when seeing another post with another picture of a different pup, put the idea of adding to our pack into my head.  But, I figured, even as much as I liked what I saw in the photo of Angel, that she'd already be adopted.  But, much to my amazement, when I messaged about her availability, she was still there.

Here's the short video I saw of Angel (remember they called her Aurora) - she was on a bit over 2 months old in it.

After talking with hubby - he agreed to drive to Indiana and see which, of several dogs, including Angel, we'd find to adopt.

It was a difficult choice...there were 2 dogs that I saw the something special in that I was looking for...Angel (a Tri-Color Coton de Tulear) and Gemma (a brown Schnau-Tzu).  Angel was born on July 8, 2013, so she is almost 6 months old and ran around and around, filled with energy. Gemma, a Schnauzer/ShihTzu mix, was only 12 weeks old...and looked like a Little Bear Cub...and was very energetic.  They both played well with our dogs.  But...after lots of thought, Angel was the one that stole our ♥ and came home with us.

Angel was such a good girl the entire trip (2 1/2 hours) home.  We let her potty with the other 2 pups in the courtyard, then brought her into the house.  Our Rosie was a bit apprehensive about this new dog in her house and kept her distance.  But, after all of them slept together in their crate that night, Rosie had warmed to Angel a bit.

Angel made herself at home, playing with toys and getting down to the business of eating and drinking and laying in the bed in front of our Den Window.

The next morning (Saturday), we headed off to Angel's Vet appointment.  Everything went fine with her check-up, she gave lots of kisses to the Vet.

Angel weighs 7.8 pounds (Jasper only weighs 7#) and is quite long - when she's on the recliner with the foot rest raised - all stretched out, she's longer than my entire leg!  I'm 5'7" and have long legs.  Her light weight and long length makes it difficult to fit her with clothing.  I had 3 very good winter coats for our pups, but I had to switch things around a bit, to get a decent fit on all of them.  Rosie weighs nearly 12#, so I put her in Benny's new coat (never used).  Jasper is the only one who fits the small coat, so he kept that.  Angel got Rosie's coat, which after cinching up the belt, fits her fine...for now!  HURTTA dog coats are amazing and a bit pricey, but well worth the money.  They can be found HERE.

Now...this is where our weekend fun and happiness suddenly began to change - for the worse!

Angel was pre-treated by our Vet with Benadryl (something he always does), prior to her Rabies vaccination was given.  Angel began to get quiet...then really quiet!

That was scarey since a few years before, we watched our Jasper collapse in front of us, in anaphylactic shock from an injection...and then whisked away by the Vet to get treatment.  It was also scarey from the standpoint that just 3 weeks prior - to the day - we had watched our Benny rapidly go downhill from a sudden onset of neurological problems and decided to put him to sleep.

Our Vet immediately checked Angel's vital signs and checked the color of her gums...and did so every few minutes for the next half hour.  She never got as bad as Jasper had - then, at least - and the Vet said she was OK to go home...but we needed to watch for signs of allergic reaction and anaphylactic shock.  Some signs were to be expected, like tenderness at the site of the injection.  Some signs were more serious and would need immediate attention of the Vet.  About 30 minutes after getting home, Angel began rubbing her face.  I kept an eye on her and within another 30 minutes or less, she began itching all over her body.  We got the pups in the car and immediately headed out to the ER & Critical Care Hospital, where we'd been 3 weeks earlier...with Benny.  (Our Vet's office was closed for the day.)

Angel was seen almost immediately and the Vet suggested treatment with additional Benadryl, via an injection and sent us home with Benadryl liquid to be given every 8 hours.  We left with instructions to watch her and if she got worse or started vomiting or had diarrhea, we needed to return.  The ER is open 24/7.

Well, we got about 4 minutes away and hubby said, look at Angel's tongue - and I checked her tongue and gums and they were grey.  I immediately thought of the Pet First Aid and CPR on Animals post I did HERE - the day before we got Angel.  But, then, she began to throw up.  In between seeing the color of her tongue and gums and her throwing up, I shouted "turn around and get back to the ER" at hubby.  When we arrived there, I got out of the car with Angel and took her inside...the gal at the desk was already standing and asked what had happened...a technician walked in from another door...and immediately grabbed Angel after hearing my response.  Angel was whisked into the back for attention.

Several minutes later, the Vet came out and took us to a private room to talk.  She said that Angel was worse than she'd originally thought and told us how she wanted to treat her.She wanted to hook her up to an IV and give her additional medication AND keep her overnight so they could give her attention throughout the night and tend to her needs.  We agreed but didn't leave until we were able to see her and find out the results of the CBC blood test...which was fine.  Angel was so excited to see us for those few brief minutes - giving all of us, including the other 2 pups kisses...but you could see how fatigued she was.

We went home without our new girl.  I was scared.  The other 2 pups whined and made all sorts of noises, no doubt missing their new companion and playmate.

I called later in the evening, before going to bed to find out how Angel was doing and they said she'd been given this, that and the other thing and her vomiting had stopped sometime earlier in the evening.  She was resting comfortably.  The next time I called was early in the morning, when I got up.  They reported that she was alot more alert and energetic, had been up and walking around, went potty and had even eaten!

We picked up one happy and excited puppy on Sunday morning.  We were so glad to see her feeling better.  We were still told we needed to watch her for any other signs or problems that would require a trip back to the ER.  But, other than sleeping a bit more throughout the day and not eating too much, she appeared to be OK.  She perked up each time the pups went outside to go potty.  They all LOVE the snow.

Today, after her re-check yesterday, I'm happy to report, she seems back to her energetic, playful self.

As you can see in the photos below, all the pups love running around in our 1500 square foot courtyard, especially in the snow!!  It's hard getting pictures of the pups running around, but here are a few...

Special Thanks for all of your prayers.  ♥

And here are all of our PuppyKids...
